Italy has introduced a new digital nomad visa for persons working remotely.
The visa targets highly skilled non-European Union and Swiss citizens who must be able to work remotely, either as someone self-employed or in collaboration with or as an employee of a company.
Visa applicants must earn three times the minimum level required for exemption from participation in healthcare costs.
Other requirements include health insurance coverage for the duration of stay, proof of accommodation, and candidates will have to show they’ve been a remote worker elsewhere for at least six months or a digital nomad for the same period of time.
The visa is renewable and family members can be added.
However, candidates must secure a work contract with a salary not less than €28,000 (N35.6 million) per year.
Applicants must also have a college or university degree of least three years from an accredited institution, an accredited professional licence, or accredited superior professional experience, and at least six months of experience in the industry where they plan to work remotely.
Intended nomads must have no immigration offences in the last five years.
