Students of Providence College, Rhode Island, United States, have raised over $3,000 for their security guard to visit his family in Nigeria.
Known as ‘Unc’, the security guard from Nigeria, has reportedly not been able to see his family in a decade over financial constraints.~
Brandon Reichert, a freshman at the college, created a GoFundMe for his building’s overnight security guard, James.
In a TikTok post, sophomore Daniel Singh, Reichert and their dormmates presented him with the $3,000 they had raised.
James fell to his knees, overwhelmed with emotion.
”This was unexpected,” James told the students in the video.
”I don’t know how much I can thank you guys. I pray from the bottom of my heart that God will continue to protect you guys to make sure that you achieve your goals.
”We started together, and I want to make sure we finished together by God’s grace.”
Singh said Unc had been good to them, saying he was always present to listen to them and never slept on duty.
”He greets everybody with a smile and always welcomes conversations no matter what time of the night you run into him,” the fundraiser read.
”He has expressed how much he enjoys his job here at PC, and we would love to be able to allow him to visit his family. He does not know how much we appreciate him, and hope that this shows to him how much he means to our community.”
The donations have continued to rise, with reports saying the GoFundMe had gathered nearly $25,000.
