Embattled Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina has been invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.
The 23-year-old model with a Nigerian dad and a Mozambican mother sparked controversy after qualifying for the round of 16 of the Miss South Africa contest. Some locals insisted she was not qualified to contest, saying she is Nigerian.

The controversy forced the South Africa Department of Home Affairs to launch an investigation into her roots. Her mum was accused of identity fraud in a preliminary investigation result by the department.
Following the investigation, the model of Nigerian heritage withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant.
However, in a statement on Friday, Miss Universe Nigeria invited the model to participate in this year’s pageant.
The pageant organisers said Chidimma will have the “opportunity to represent your father’s native land on an international stage”.
“We believe that your journey in the world of pageantry is far from over and that there are still numerous opportunities for you to showcase your talent, grace and beauty,” the statement reads.
“As a Nigerian by heritage, we would like to formally invite you to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.
“This is an opportunity to represent your father’s native land on an international stage, and we believe you would be an outstanding contender.
