Popular Nigerian sports journalist, Oma Akatugba, has revealed what some ‘big boys’ in London told him about Nigerian immigrants in the United Kingdom.
In a post on X on Sunday, he said they revealed to him why Nigerians often say the UK is a tough place to live.
He quoted them as saying many Nigerians do not like to start from the bottom when they migrate to the UK, saying they do not want to ‘pay their dues’.
Akatugba narrated the story of a Nigerian man who worked at Tesco but now has a master’s degree and works in the energy sector.
I hung out with some Naija guys in London last night, all professionals doing well and driving fancy cars (okay, they’re on loans, but still impressive). I asked them why so many Nigerians post online about how tough life is in the UK that I consider it embarrassing. Most said…

They are correct. In the UK, you start from bottom to top as an immigrant. When you are settled here legally, it is the major ACHIEVEMENT. No shortcut.
I have a 5 year plan to success in the UK. I TICK MY BOX YEARLY AFTER EACH ACHIEVEMENT.
