Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, has urged Nigerian youths to remain in the country, saying they have brighter opportunities.
The former Rivers State governor said it is possible to become a governor or minister in Nigeria suddenly.
He said this while speaking on Arise TV’s Perspectives.
The former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate said those seeking security or other amenities may leave the country but those who seek opportunities have to remain, describing Nigeria as a land of opportunities.
“I have always discouraged people who want to leave the country. I say 9-5 is the job you can get. You may not get the opportunity we get in Nigeria. You can just wake up one day and you are already a minister or a governor. It just happens,” Amaechi said.
“I don’t know how work in other countries operates. But, if you’re if you are looking for opportunities, please stay back in Nigeria but if you are looking for 9-5, safety and others, (you can migrate).”
He, however, enjoined Nigerian youths to position themselves for the opportunities that abound in the country.
There have been fears in some sectors, particularly health and information and communication technology, over the mass migration of youths in search of greener pastures in Europe and North America.
