Ayo Edebiri was born on October 3, 1995, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America. During her eighth grade, she became interested in comedy. Subsequently, she was enrolled into the improv club at Boston Latin School.
Later on, Edebiri attended New York University (NYU), where she initially intended to study education. However, she switched to major in dramatic writing.

Edebiri began pursuing a comedy career as a junior student at NYU. She interned at the Upright Citizens Brigade. This was also the period when she met her future collaborators, Rachel Sennott and Emma Seligman.
In 2014, Edebiri made her TV acting debut in an episode of the series, Defectives. She also made her stand-up comedy debut on Comedy Central’s Up Next. In May 2020, her scripted digital series, Ayo and Rachel Are Single, which was co-written by and also featured Sennot, began airing on the network.
In the same year, Edebiri starred in the comedy-drama, Shithouse, in an uncredited role. She also co-hosts a podcast called Iconography with Olivia Craighead. Produced by Forever Dog, the podcast features interviews with guests in conversation about their shared personal icons.
Edebiri wrote the sole seasons of The Rundown with Robin Thede and NBC’s Sunnyside. She was also a writing staff member of Big Mouth for the show’s fourth season. In August 2020, she auditioned and got selected as a replacement for Jenny Slate, who was initially selected to voice the character Missy. In addition, Edebiri acted in a supporting role in the 2022 film adaptation of the Jennifer E. Smith’s YA novel, Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between.
In 2022, Edebiri made her big breakthrough as a main cast member on the Hulu comedy series, The Bear. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Independent Spirit Award. She also got nominations from the Gotham Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards for her role as Sydney Adamu, an ambitious young sous chef.
She has also been nominated for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, Satellite Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards for the same role.
Edebiri has since been involved in other successful projects, including becoming a writer and consulting producer on the Hulu series, What We Do in the Shadows, which earned her a nomination for the Writers Guild of America Award for “Best Episodic Comedy” for the episode “Private School”. On January 26, 2023, Edebiri joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) team. She is anticipated to play Erin Cicero in the film, Thunderbolts, which would he released in 2025.
